Essential first aid (in-person workshop)

In this workshop we will cover:
Workplaces need to ensure that they meet WorkSafe NZ requirements for first aiders. This shorter course can be helpful as an additional course for workplaces who wish to go above and beyond their legal requirements and ensure that ALL their staff know what to do in an emergency, without the huge cost and time commitments of the longer NZQA courses.
This is a concise practical course covering general First Aid. It looks at:

CPR (practice with manikins-chest compressions only, but not mouth to mouth) plus use of automated defibrillators in a public setting;

Choke-rescue techniques (practice with manikins);

Dealing with emergency medical situations such as heart attacks, strokes, diabetic emergencies, seizures, etc;

Dealing with other emergency situations such as burns, allergic reactions, poisonings, concussion, broken bones, etc.
Everyone on the course receives a booklet, to complement the explanations and demonstrations on the course. Participants also receive a certificate. The course is four hours long.

Intercultural navigation workshop

Cost: FREE. This workshop is free to anyone delivering services to individuals and communities based in the Upper Harbour Local Board area.
This LiiFT session sits within the Culture, Wellbeing & Safe Organisations and People, Volunteers & Workforce capability areas and supports organisations at the Foundations and Strengthen stages. It is proudly supported by the Upper Harbour Local Board.
The Upper Harbour Local Board area is home to people from a wide range of cultural backgrounds. To create connected and inclusive communities, it is important to understand different cultural perspectives and communicate effectively across cultures. This interactive workshop explores the migrant experience and equips participants with practical tools for engaging confidently with culturally diverse communities.
Participants will:

Explore the challenges and strengths associated with the migrant journey, including identity, belonging, and resilience.

Learn practical cross-cultural communication frameworks to better understand differences in values, relationships, decision-making, and communication styles.

Gain insight into the experiences of 1.5 and second-generation migrant New Zealanders and the complexities of navigating multiple cultural worlds.

Reflect on their own cultural assumptions and develop practical strategies for building culturally responsive, inclusive, and effective practice in workplaces and communities.

You’ll have the opportunity to ask questions and learn from others in the community.
Who is this for?
Anyone delivering services to individuals and communities based in the Upper Harbour Local Board area, in either a paid or voluntary position.
Learning outcome
By the end of the workshop, participants will have a deeper understanding of migration, culture, communication, identity, and belonging. They will be better equipped to engage effectively across cultures and work alongside migrant and diverse communities with greater awareness, confidence, and cultural responsiveness.
